Many homeowners are unaware of the many options they have for the faucets throughout their dwelling. Home faucet trends for 2021 affect style, color, function, health, and more.

What’s New in Home Faucet Trends

• New on the kitchen scene is a one-piece sink and faucet combo with a separate control button located at the front of the sink for quick, easy on and off.
• Professional and industrial faucets are making their way into homes. These faucets pull down with concealed, retractable hoses.
• Wall-mounted faucets are trending in bathrooms.
• As bathroom faucets get more angular and square, kitchen faucets are getting taller and rounder like a gooseneck.
• No longer limited to chrome, homeowners will have new color options for faucets, including Ombre combinations of colors.
• Smart technology is the trend that has been spreading through homes for the last couple years and will continue to grow, especially in 2021.

Smarter, Healthier Faucets

Touchless faucets are becoming the new normal and will be expected in new and remodeled bathrooms and kitchens in 2021. With this sensor-activated feature, your family and your faucets will stay sanitary.

Some premium faucets now on the market feature antimicrobial finishes or coatings, making them resistant to bacteria. Examples are Delta faucets with SpotShield® and Moen faucets with Microban®.

Some metals are naturally antimicrobial and are great choices for home fixtures. Copper and its alloys have the greatest antimicrobial, antiviral, and antifungal effects. They will likely see a resurgence this year.

Technology will continue to advance. We’ll see more smart devices around the home, including voice-activated faucets that will turn on and off and change temperature on command.

Home Faucet Trends for Entertaining

Because cooking areas are expanding beyond the traditional kitchen, so are faucets. Many people will continue spending extra time at home in 2021 and looking for ways to expand their living space into the basement, attic, or the outdoors.

Durability and weather resistance are required for outdoor-rated faucets. They are made of non-corrosive metals like stainless steel, and the trend leads toward commercial grade. We’ll also see more alfresco pot fillers this year.

In basements, wet bar faucets are gaining popularity. Along with adding classic tavern style, these faucets feature a smaller center size to fit small bar sinks, and they have higher clearance for rinsing tall glassware.

The owner of this Riverwest Neighborhood building had a roofing contractor tear off the existing roof to replace it. Unfortunately, it was left overnight and was not properly covered. A significant rain event occurred prior to completing the reroofing, which caused massive damage inside the building, resulting in an insurance claim.

This multi-use building consisted of a first-floor commercial unit and a second-floor apartment space. After the initial water remediation was done, Dimension Design-Build-Remodel was brought into redesign and rebuild the space. The work consisted of replacing many of the windows in the commercial areas and third floor attic area, a complete renovation of the first-floor commercial space, including layout and all finishes, replacing all exterior doors on the first floor, and drywall and carpentry repairs on the second floor along with a bathroom remodel.

The customer wanted the first-floor unit to serve as an art gallery, so we configured a new floor plan that included moving the bathroom locations for greater efficiency. We also created an office space and remodeled the main area in the front of the building to act as the exhibit space for the future art gallery.

It was important to try and keep some of the unit’s historical charm. We maintained the look of many of the exposed brick interior walls and utilized their texture to enhance the space. The tray ceiling in the main exhibit space was repaired and reused. Many of the buildings mechanical systems were upgraded. Per the customer’s request, we added a rich pallet of textures and colors to enhance the art gallery experience.

It’s something we don’t often think about – the air we breathe, more specifically, the air inside our homes. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized indoor air pollution as one of the most concerning environmental dangers we encounter daily. To be more precise, indoor air can be up to five times more contaminated than outdoor air, according to the EPA. This finding was supported by the results from in-home air tests across North America that determined 96% of homes tested had at least one issue with indoor air quality.

My wife and I agreed my bathroom needed renovation to provide increased handicap accessibility. We discussed the subject for well over a year, lacking the motivation to start shopping for renovation products. Then we found the website for Dimension Design-Build-Remodel, Inc.

Dave Kallie, the project manager/owner, was a perfect match for us. He listened carefully to our ideas for the project without interjecting personal opinions, and then provided a contract proposal complete with every detail of the project including scope of work, clean up, and payment schedules. His close attention to detail and projections provided a very realistic timeline, which was important in our planning since the alternate bathroom in the home is not handicap ready.

Dave provided a list of preferred suppliers which took the mystery out of the shopping portion of our responsibility. He directed us to tile and fixture stores that are known for their professionalism. Within 10 minutes at the tile store, my wife had completed selections. Fixture shopping was also as quick.

The 1970’s bathroom disappeared and was replaced by polite, punctual, and skilled craftsmen, who listened intently and acted quickly on last minute changes to the plan. My wife is somewhat of a perfectionist, and she has nothing but praise for the entire crew and the end product. We developed a great deal of respect and trust for everyone involved with this project.

The best news is we stayed within an acceptable budget and had enough funds to include a beautiful tile mural of a mermaid placed above the toilet. My bathroom has become a regular feature of the home tour offered to our guests.

Ingredients

• 1 lb. cavatappi
• 1/4 c. butter
• 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
• 2 1/2 c. whole milk
• Pinch nutmeg (optional)
• Kosher salt
• Freshly ground black pepper
• 1 1/2 c. shredded white cheddar
• 1 c. shredded Fontina
• 3/4 c. freshly grated Parmesan, divided
• 1 lb. cooked lobster, roughly chopped
• 1/2 c. Panko breadcrumbs
• 1 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
• 1/4 c. freshly chopped parsley, for garnish

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 375°. In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook cavatappi until al dente. Drain and set aside.
2. In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Sprinkle over flour and cook until slightly golden, 2-3 minutes. Pour in milk and whisk until combined. Season with nutmeg if using, salt, and pepper. Let simmer until thickened slightly, about 2 minutes. 
3. Remove pan from heat and stir in cheddar, Fontina, and 1/2 cup Parmesan and whisk until smooth. Fold in pasta and lobster and transfer into a 9"-x-13" baking dish. 
4. In a medium bowl, combine Panko, the remaining Parmesan, and oil. Season with salt and pepper and sprinkle over pasta. Bake until bubbly and golden, 20-25 minutes.
