A new year is an opportunity to make a new statement. In this season of transition from 2024 to 2025, kitchens are ditching their standard features for more stylish options, with 2025 kitchens focusing on character and charm.

“While in 2025 we’re going to see more polished and posh kitchens, we also expect to see kitchen remodels that reflect a family’s taste and lifestyle,” said David Kallie, MCR, CKBR, CAPS, president and CEO of Dimension Inc. “Your space should make you feel creative, energized, and relaxed.”

Cook up something beautiful this upcoming year with these trends:

Bold Color
All-white kitchens might have been all the rage for a few years, but colors and patterns with chrome and metal appliances are back. Kitchens in 2025 will use saturated colors across cabinetry, walls, ranges, refrigerators, tile, and countertops.

“Color displays a home’s personality,” David said. “We expect to see color as the main focus in kitchens, not just used as an accent here and there.”

Earthy tones, moody neutrals, and dark shades are the most popular colors — think deep forest, terracotta, or navy blue.

Wood Cabinetry
Just as bold color is making a comeback, so are wood cabinets. Dark wood tones like walnut or woods with a golden finish like oak are on trend.

“Homeowners gravitate towards the natural beauty of exposed wood fronts,” said David. “The rich tones add texture, warmth, and depth to the space.”

Kitchen Tables
“The kitchen is the heart of the home, and as such, it is used in many different ways,” David said. “While a big island with seating for many activities is still a popular kitchen feature, many homeowners are looking for other ways to use the space.”

Trendy in 2025 will be a separate area near the kitchen. This may look like a table with comfortable seating, a breakfast nook, or a desk functional for work. These options make it feasible to use the kitchen to spend time with one another.

Open Shelving
Instead of a wall of cabinets, modern kitchens will use open shelving. This will be a must-have feature for families who collect items like glassware, copper pots and pans, China, or antique dishware.

“This open shelving is an opportunity for homeowners to show off objects that make them who they are or items they are most proud of,” said David. “It combines the elements of art and personality.”

Hidden Areas
Storage is of utmost importance in kitchens, and in 2025, kitchens aim to be clutter-free.

“Butler pantries and sculleries are becoming popular, adding luxury, elegance, and functionality to the homeowner,” said David. “It is now trendy to have just the range and refrigerator as the only appliances in the main kitchen.”

A butler’s pantry is a small space—usually between the kitchen and the seating area—with a countertop, cabinets, and small appliances. There should be plenty of shelves and cabinets to keep dishware, cookware, and dry goods out of the kitchen to keep the main space tidy.

On the other hand, a scullery is an extension of a butler’s pantry. With a sink, microwave, and dishwasher, it is practically a mini kitchen. This space is often used for messier tasks, like cooking and food preparation or cleaning up after meals.

Whether a butler’s pantry or a scullery is right for the homeowner depends on space. If the remodel is large, a scullery could work, but if room is tight, a butler’s pantry is a better fit
